Inviting root and balance. Every day.

I take none of my mobility for granted.

Every day that I’m on my feet is a gift.

I’ve been immobilized. If you’ve been following along, you know that I’ve been sat down or laid flat in a variety of ways. Sometimes for weeks. I was starting to feel like I had a condition I had to be careful not to trigger. I was holding myself gingerly, afraid of the next spasm.

And then I returned to my tai chi and sword practice in a way I never had before this year. It’s been a bonus of the pandemic for me to get back to class (thank you Zoom!) with the teachers and fellow students I learned this from and with. I have the luxury of practice space (resulting in an extremely minimally furnished front room which functions as living room, office, and home gym).

I heard a celeb who just turned 60 say recently “In 20 years, I will be 80 and that’s a real number. Doesn’t matter how much you work out, what you eat, you’re 80…”

Yes, 80 is a real number and so is 60, 65, 70, 71, 72….

I may get to 80. Jeeze, I’ve gotten so much older than I ever thought I would. (Really.)

The practices I do today make my today better.

I stand straight(-ish). I fall less. When I fell a couple weeks ago, I relaxed, my body turned without my “doing” it, and I didn’t get hurt.

I may have more dances with immobility ahead of me before I die. Or not.

Until then, I invite root and balance. I stretch and flex. I walk and do body weight exercises.
